Violet, Pleasure Garden and more at Aldeburgh Festival 2020
Posted on 18 Dec 2019
The programme for the Aldeburgh Festival 2020 has been announced, and several of my works will be performed:
- Firstly, Britten Sinfonia, conducted by Ryan Wigglesworth, will perform my string orchestra piece My Curves are not Mad in the festival’s opening concert in Bury St Edmund’s St Edmundsbury Cathedral. They commissioned the piece and toured it in 2015.
- My opera Violet, written with writer Alice Birch, will have its world premiere on the same weekend in the Snape Maltings Hall, with the London Sinfonietta conducted by Andrew Gourlay. It’s going on to various places in the summer and autumn (details TBC), but it’s lovely to have it premiered at Snape, as Alice and I developed it on a residency there. Violet is being recorded for broadcast by BBC Radio 3.
- My new violin concerto, Pleasure Garden, for Daniel Pioro and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, will receive its second performance on the 19 June, fresh from its premiere in Manchester – both performances are being conducted by Ilan Volkov.
- The London Sinfonietta have commissioned two more of my Études for solo violin (Nos. 5 & 6) which will be played at a private event in Aldeburgh – details of public premiere TBA…
Tickets for all concerts in the festival go on sale in February.
