NMC Portrait Disc – Pieces that Disappear
NMC Recordings are releasing a portrait disc of my orchestral music, all performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, entitled Pieces that Disappear.
It features four pieces:
1-3. Three Pieces that Disappear
BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Martyn Brabbins (cond.)
BBC Philharmonic Orchestra with Anna Dennis, Andrew Gourlay (cond.)
7-9. Pleasure Garden
BBC Philharmonic Orchestra with Daniel Pioro, Elena Schwarz (cond.)
10-15. After Lassus
BBC Philharmonic Orchestra with Anna Dennis, Andrew Gourlay (cond.)
It’s a beautiful and rare thing to have orchestral music recorded like this, especially with the BBC Philharmonic, with whom I’ve been Composer-in-Association since 2021. It’s also especially nice to have my most frequent collaborators Anna Dennis and Daniel Pioro on the album, as well as Andrew Gourlay (who conducted the first production of my opera Violet), Martyn Brabbins (who has previously conducted Spirit of the Staircase and Sonnet Machine), and Elena Schwarz, who did such a brilliant job at the premiere of Pleasure Garden. I’m also immensely grateful to the BBC Philharmonic and the producers and engineers who recorded the pieces, and of course to NMC themselves for releasing the disc.
The album can be streamed here, or purchased here, in physical or digital form.
