New works on Hildegard & Kassia for Daniel Pioro & Marian Consort
The Aldeburgh Festival will see the premieres of two pieces for choir and violin, for violinist Daniel Pioro and the Marian Consort – O Ecclesia, O Euchari (after Hildegard), and Hymns of Kassiana (after Kassia). Daniel and the Marians will perform them in the gorgeous Holy Trinity Church in Blythburgh on 10 June – link here. Alongside my two contributions are pieces by John Tavener, Arvo Pärt, Gaspar van Weerbeke, Jean Lhéritier and Josquin des Prez.
The Hildegard piece will contain a new version of O Ecclesia, a Hildegard chant for which Daniel and I have made versions for violin and string orchestra, and for violin and organ (recorded on his solo album Saint Boy). Daniel and the Marians will also perform this movement at the Wigmore Hall on 28 March.
