‘Monologues for the Curious’ at BBC Proms
The 2025 BBC Proms will see the premiere of Monologues for the Curious, my new work for tenor Allan Clayton and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert will be on the 21 July at the London’s Royal Albert Hall, with John Storgårds conducting. The orchestra are also performing Mahler’s Seventh Symphony, and it’ll all be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
25 minutes long and in four movements, Monologues for the Curious sets texts that I’ve made out of fragments of ghost stories by M.R. James.
The piece marks the culmination of my post as Composer-in-Association with the orchestra, which has also seen premieres of Pleasure Garden, Three Pieces that Disappear, After Lassus and O Ecclesia, and a portrait disc of my works released on NMC Recordings.
It’s also lovely to be back at the BBC Proms, after my St John’s Dance opened the First Night of the 2017 festival.
