Composer-in-Association with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra
I couldn’t be more thrilled to be taking up the role of Composer-in-Association with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for the next few years. I’ll write three major pieces, the first of which, Pleasure Garden for violin and orchestra with Daniel Pioro as soloist, was due to be premiered last summer and should be rescheduled later this year.
Aside from the three commissions, there may be a few other fun things happening, starting this week where Daniel Pioro and I have curated a programme around past music for a reduced-size BBC Philharmonic, featuring our arrangements of music by Hildegard, Vivaldi, Biber, Rameau and Tartini, plus an ensemble version of my Gymnopédies. Tune in here on Wednesday at 2pm.
I take over the Composer-in-Association post from (or slightly overlap with) Mark Simpson. The BBC Phil commissioned my Sonnet Machine in 2015.
