Adelaide Symphony Orchestra perform ‘Gymnopédies’
My Gymnopediés are being given their Australian premiere by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Sharp. They’ll perform it twice – on the 7th and 8th March, at their Grainger Studio. Also on the programme are Toru Takemitsu’s How Slow the Wind, Aaron Copland’s Quiet City, and Arvo Pärt’s Sequentia.
The Gymnopédies were originally written for piano during lockdown 2020. I made the chamber orchestra version for the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021.
Also in early March, Aidan O’Rourke and guitarist Sean Shibe are performing the version of O Ecclesia I made for them last year. They’re doing it on the 3rd March at Leeds’ Howard Assembly Rooms, 6th March at RWCMD in Cardiff, and 8th March at London’s LSO St Luke’s. It’s based on a chant by Hildegard and was originally written for Daniel Pioro and the BBC Philharmonic.
