‘Abide’ recording and score released
My piece Abide is featured on a new recording and publication – Many Voices: Ensemble – from music education charity Music Masters.
They commissioned ten composers to work with primary school-age students on a new piece for beginner/intermediate string ensemble. I ran a workshop at Jubilee Primary School near Brixton where I worked with nine- and ten-year olds, gathering material generated by them and turning it into a finished piece – playable by string ensembles from Grade 4 and upwards, including professionals. Abide can be done by varying sizes of string ensembles, and can also feature piano and any number of glockenspiels if desired.
All ten pieces were premiered at Wigmore Hall in March by Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective, and now have been recorded by NMC Recordings (buy here), and published in scores and parts by Composers Edition (buy here as physical parts or downloads).
The other pieces are by Sonia Allori, Blasio Kavuma, James MacMillan, Tom Poster, Jasmin Kent Rodgman, Abel Selaocoe, Aileen Sweeney, Ruta Vitkauskaite and Roderick Williams – some great and really usable pieces for young string ensembles.
